the client

Tony's Lube & Tune is an auto repair shop that was in desperate need of moving into the 21st century. Tony needed an identity that communicated professionalism, while also having a website that would create appointments and referrals. The design challenge was to create an experience in the logo and digital/print marketing collateral, that would reflect the trustworthy business approach and family feel of the shop.

the project

Tony wanted an identity that communicated professionalism, without being stuffy; laid back, but dependable and a focal point that said "Tony". With this direction, I started the logo by selecting the colors blue, black, and gray for a feeling of professionalism and dependability. I made "TONY'S" the focal point of the design in black text over a blue background to make it pop. I chose a serif font for the header to communicate professionalism, but one that had long serifs to bring in the "fun, family" vibe. This juxtaposition of professionalism/fun is continued with a contrasting serif font at the bottom of the design.

Everyone knows Tony by his car, and because of this, I chose to re-create a vector graphic of his car and make it the statement piece of the design. To do this, I took a photo of Tony's car and built a graphic version in Illustrator. Using this design choice shows that this is "Tony's" place, but also that it is a auto repair shop.

I then designed the business card and website with the same brand themes and a clean/modern approach. The website was created to be simple, easy to operate, and distilled to the basics - warranty, guarantee, and services provided. The focus of the site was to draw people to make an appointment or contact the shop.

Within a month of the new site, and registering it on search engines and claiming Google Places, over $20,000 was made. The site continues to draw business in for Tony, making it a wonderful asset and investment.
